About Sky Island Inspections
InterNACHI Certified Home Inspector
I’m Dan Evans, owner and home inspector of Sky Island Inspections. When I perform a Property Inspection, my priority is to include my clients in the process—whether that means walking them through the findings in person or communicating at length over a phone call.
Nothing satisfies me more than knowing I helped put a client’s mind at ease when my inspection findings assist them in making a confident and well-informed decision.
Experience in Construction, Real Estate, and Design
A Dedication To Excellence
My first taste of work in the housing industry was as a construction laborer while still a high school student in Southern California. After graduating, I continued to work in the housing construction industry working in several trades. While obtaining a degree in Real Estate Economics I worked for a home remodeling company, then became a Real Estate Agent, and eventually a Real Estate Appraiser for a local bank.
I took a break to serve my country for several years, and had lots of fun, traveled the world, and met great people everywhere. In the meantime, my appraisal certifications expired and the industry changed. When I left the military, I worked for the Department of Defense and several civilian contractors out of Arlington VA, which involved inspecting medial units and their buildings around the world. My travels took me to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson. While working there, I fell in love with Arizona and decided to relocate permanently. Really, I had no choice, because the rest of my family loved Arizona and moved here also.
For nine years, I worked as a member of a team inspecting commercial buildings around the world, flying out of Tucson. To keep busy between trips, I worked in design and construction of green homes that use alternative building systems, including solar homes, ICF, straw-bale, and adobe designs. Nine years of travel in the post 9/11 era became tiresome and I began looking for a way to “stay home.” Intrigued by conversations with others on my team, I decided to pursue work as a residential home inspector. I started out with a firm performing residential and light commercial inspections before branching out on my own. I had the honor of learning about home inspections from one of the most experienced and ethical home inspectors in Arizona, for which I will always be grateful.
When I’m not on the job, I love spending time outside gardening and taking my camera on long hikes to photograph the astounding natural beauty of Southeastern Arizona.
